sCTF.io 2016 Q1 // When in Rome (10 points)

Capture the Flag, sCTF.io 0 Comment 253

When we first looked at this, we recognized it as a Caesar Shift problem. The title of the challenge also hinted at the type of cipher. Here is the original encrypted text;

Nvctfdv kf jTKW! Nv yfgv pfl veafp kyv gifscvdj nv yrmv nizkkve wfi kyv wzijk hlrikvi fw 2016. Yviv zj pfli wzijk fw (yfgvwlccp) drep wcrxj! jtkw{ny3e_1e_tkw_u0_r5_tkw3i5_u0}

There are many great resources out there to do the shift for you, but I used this site;

http://www.richkni.co.uk/php/crypta/letreplace.php

We inputted the text into the decoder, and got;

WELCO ME TO SCTF ! WE HOPE YOU E NJOY THE P ROBLE MS WE HAVE WRIT TEN F OR TH E FIR ST QU ARTER OF 2 016. HERE IS YO UR FI RST O F (HO PEFUL LY) M ANY F LAGS! SCTF {WH3N _1N_C TF_D0 _A5_C TF3R5 _D0}

Which was the 9th shift. From this we got and submitted the flag;

sctf{wh3n_1n_ctf_d0_a5_ctf3r5_d0}

And got 10 points.
